Any time I can do something to improve our impact on this earth, it’s a win-win. I’ve thought about doing cloth diapers but I haven’t ventured into that journey yet. I think lots of parents can agree with me when I say I like the convenience of disposable diapers. Nest brand diapers might be the next best thing in working towards an eco-friendly lifestyle without cloth diapering. If you want to support a family business that has a mission to create eco-friendly, compostable, disposable baby diapers, free of chemicals, this is it!

First of all I love the  packaging. The simple tree and sun image on the packages immediately caught my eye bringing a calming vibe at first glance. It doesn’t have the bright colored cartoon character packaging like many diaper companies do, and this was appealing in itself.  Besides the natural brand look, there are a handful of other reasons to love these diapers.

Plant based and compostable: Nest diapers pride themselves in being plant based and made with hand-selected sustainable materials that are free of harmful chemicals, lotions, perfumes, and known allergens. This mean the diapers are safe for baby’s skin and are compostable. It is important to note that the compostable diapers need to be properly composted and are not to be composted in your regular home compost piles. Read about composting diapers here. If you are a reader from the Twin Cities…it looks like there is a service offered in our area (not active right now due to COVID but keep in mind for future!)

All-natural hypoallergenic: All of the materials used in Nest diapers have been tested for skin sensitivity leaving your baby comfortable with no irritation.

Comfort: I found that the diapers fit well to the baby’s body. The nest waistband is stretchable with an out and inner layer allowing for wiggle room with baby.  I did try out a size 3 which is slightly big for Rory (he’s 13 lbs and it’s suggested for 14-26 lbs.)  I will say that even though the size 3 was slightly big for him, the diaper still held everything in. So if you go a size up, I found it’s no big deal.

Softness: The diapers are made of plant based materials that will leave your baby in comfort. I couldn’t believe how soft the diapers were…it was like feeling a cloud of cotton balls. The plant based material is also breathable allowing for extra comfort, much like a cloth diaper.

Absorbency:  This was the first diaper I’ve tried with a wetness indicator line and I loved that feature. The line starts out yellow and turns to blue when it’s time for a changing. Below images show the wetness indicator line.

These diapers are so absorbent and don’t multiply in size when they get wet, often times making it look like your baby has a pillow attached to their bottom. The sustainably sourced chlorine free fluff wood pulp helps absorb the wetness so that baby’s skin will stay dry. There were absolutely no leaks when using Nest diapers. I know there are other diaper brands that claim to be “leak-free” and that hasn’t proven true in my experience. With Nest, the absorbency was well proven.

It’s always a bummer when eco-friendly products are more expensive than better known brand names. I know this can be a turn away for many people, including myself, who are budget-minded.  This price is the only drawback I found with Nest diaper brand. My hope is that when more people go eco-friendly the supply-demand chain will have an effect and soon everyone will be able to afford eco-friendly products. In the mean time, take steps to be eco-friendly when possible, and if your budget agrees, I’d highly recommend this brand.
